Southgate after the upgrade Southgate after the upgrade

WORK is underway on a multi-million pound project to redevelop Hoyland that will create scores of jobs.

Barnsley Council and developers Resilienti have announced plans to build a new supermarket and shops, ‘re-model’ the Town Hall and install kiosks on the High Street.

The market will be relocated to a new site on Southgate behind the Town Hall and will have improved facilities.

The plans are designed to complement the existing landmark Hoyland Centre which provides modern office space for Barnsley Council staff and includes a GP practice, pharmacy, community nursing services, a library and learning centre and café.

Which supermarket? First was lidl then was told they said site is too small, then network, but no news. Or is it a case of 'if you build it they will come'

Herons are taking over the jack fultons lot. That's what they class as a supermarket.

Parking is being made near market street so people will have to walk herons is taking over fultons and fultons are building new shop where the old charisma was they are building 3 shops to let for the 2 on the market what will be lost also a massive sign will be put up like what's at manvwrs advertising what's there also be aware hall street is a private road not a car park so park on my doorstep and I won't be happy the council have not thought this through throwing money away

Does anyone know the name of the national retailers that's going to be next to boyes? Also does anyone know what kiosks there building on high street and on south gate? Could do with a poundland as there really popular these days . The new supermarket there building is netto it shows you the plans online if anyone wants to view them and also shows you the plans for boyes . A lot of elderly people are complaining regarding market street been a bad road to cross over . I agree there's no road islands or traffic lights whatsoever . Also there's no tourist signs In hoyland!

Ali cafe should have moved into 1 of the new Kiosks at the end of June . Absolutely can't be bothered to move yet! Netto is becoming a sainsburys instead not rocket science to work that out! New jack Fulton is almost complete and as been re-named Fulton deals for some strange reason! There building a Irish pub where the old ECS building was . God knows when there going to build boyes ! Town looks alot bigger and better now . Heron foods is moving into old jack Fulton and ladbrokes but don't know when .and ladbrokes is moving into south gate
