A BARNSLEY MAN has been killed following a crash on the motorway.

Police have issued an appeal for witnesses following the fatal collision yesterday afternoon (Saturday 12 March).

At around 2.30pm, it is reported that a black Volksagen Golf and a white Citroen DS4 were involved in a collision on the M1 southbound, close to Junction 35.

The driver of the Golf, a 56-year-old man from Barnsley, was taken to hospital via air ambulance but was pronounced dead a short time later. His relatives have been informed and are receiving support.

The male driver of the Citroen and a male passenger in the Golf suffered minor injuries that required hospital treatment.

We was stuck in the traffic and saw the air ambulance leave however the road was closed off but cars were drying through

It had happened a couple of minutes before we passed going North bound,it didn't look that bad other than one car was facing in the wrong direction. My thoughts are with the family x
