Mi Card prices to increase Mi Card prices to increase

MI CARD bus fares will increase in April.

The cost of a fare will increase from 50p to 60p from Sunday 10 April.

Following consultation with Barnsley Youth Council and South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive last year, it was agreed by the Council’s Cabinet members that in order to make £200,000 savings during the 2016/17 financial year, there would need to be a 10p fare increase.

Mi Card currently offers discounted travel to young people aged between five and 18 years old, for journeys starting or ending in Barnsley.

The scheme is scheduled to discontinue in 2017/18.

That's one way of getting kids to walk too school. Hope the weekly pass doesn't go up.

It's a pity they don't do same for the oaps they get free travel in my opinion they should be made to pay a small fee.

Bus driver on Saturday made my grandson of twelve pay one pound eighty bus fare

Did he have a pass? If not then rightfully he should pay full price. The pass isnt to prove age, it is to prove entitlement. A kid visiting from London wouldnt get cheaper fair on Barnsley buses for example.

If your child is under 15 and does not have their consessionary pass if they tell the driver they are under 15 then the fare they should pay is a 2 third fare not full

When are they just gonna disregard the entire MiCard system and just charge 70p like the Student Travel Card?

This is disgusting, it's gone from 40p to 60p in a year! Why do you feel the need to make our journeys more expensive?

Why dont they just end the scheme now.

That is crazy at the moment it saves 20p on standard kids fare and if kids forget their mi card (even as young as 13 ) drivers try and charge full fare in

What the hell? I don't get paid enough to spend an extra 10p on bus fair, I already spend £4 a week for bus fair as it is!
Keep it as it is, seriously, I'm not walking a mile with a walking stick just to save money for food!

TOO EXPENSIVE!!!!! This is rediciolous

This is not fair for kids that have no choice but to use the bus to get to school, it already costs £5 a week for them to gain education

It's all greed. I mean what about them that have to catch a bus with children. It's expensive enough to start with. 17.50 per week out of benefits. I can't understand why they need to put it up its not going out of its way it's doing exactly same route as it did before.

They should fetch a kids weekly pass out so kids would be able to use buses freely

Reply Posted by Daz on Wednesday March 9 2016 at 17:41
They do have that. £5 for the week. Gets kids on all SC buses in SY and trams in Sheffield.

I hope your kids are not going to the same school you did, if they are you may as well keep them at home and use the money to buy some turkey twangers.

What everyone is forgetting is that not that long ago there excuses for the rise in fares was down to fuel price rises now fuel is around £1 mark that's about 40p cheaper than this time : years ago so surely the fares should be coming down not going up tut tut Barnsley council
