Pitch closures Pitch closures

SNOW and forecast heavy rain has led to pitch closure announcements across Barnsley.

The council say all its football pitches will be closed this weekend (05/06 March) due to adverse weather and ground conditions.

A spokesman said: "We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause."

i think it's an absolute disgrace to keep calling the weekends matches off by the council why don't we just have some common sense and let the referee decide if it's fit to play or not at this rate we'll still be playing midweek matches in May lol

This is because the pitches are owned by the council so the ultimate responsibility lies with the council irrespective of what any referee may say.
If someone is injured the council could be sued not the referee.
Its the "where there's blame there's a claim" culture the council are scared of I'm afraid.
