Dan Jarvis wants government to fund stop smoking services

Tuesday February 23 2016

Dan Jarvis MP Dan Jarvis MP

MP Dan Jarvis has called for the government to provide sustainable funding to services that help people quit smoking.

Mr Jarvis said that as well as improving health, helping people to stop smoking could rescue families out of poverty.

He said: “Stop smoking services are proven to be the most effective way to quit smoking and these services need continued investment.

“In Barnsley, where smoking rates are four per cent above the national average and 32 per cent of households with a smoker fall below the poverty line, we need to make sure that every person who wants to give up smoking can access the support they need.”

Well I'm sure Dan the man thinks there are some people with magical powers who can help people quit as he can't be being an hypocrite and say that nicotine replacement therapies (eg legal highs) are ok - when he's been part of the push to make legal highs illegal

On a positive note, I stopped smoking nearly 8 years ago, my GP prescribed Champix for me, yes, they made me ill but I took them because I wanted to stop smoking. Now I feel so much better and have more money to spend on the things i like. Feeling free:)
