Millions to be spent on Birdwell roundabout

Friday January 29 2016

WORK is to begin on a £5 million scheme to update and replace Birdwell roundabout.

The first work will be around redesigning the system off Juction 36 of the M1 and will last for about nine months.

It's part of a bigger scheme to improve the link to Sheffield Road, allievate traffic onto the motorway rondabout and has been funded by the Sheffield City Region investment fund.

The plans include the creation of two new roundabouts on the Hoyland Common side of Birdwell roundabout and a direct link off the southbound motorway sliproad onto the A61 to Birdwell.

Birdwell roundabout itself will be elongated, to avoid the problem of traffic coming from the Dearne Valley Parkway queuing on the Birdwell roundabout to get on the motorway.

My hope is the new roundabout has not been designed by the numpty who thought up the traffic light scheme at the aforementioned roundabout.

What a load of tosh. Adding more roundabouts will just add more delays. I have seen the plans and all this will to is chaos and more rtc thus fetching it to a stand still at that point.

more money wasted on making things worse, put that money to better use and build more social housing.
