A GROUP of volunteers hope to raise more than £20,000 so they can run a railway from Elsecar to Cortonwood.

The Elsecar Heritage Railway says only half of the two mile line is operational and it needs to complete the level crossing and add the ballast.

The group got a £50,000 lottery grant in 2013 to extend the track and it is run by over 40 volunteers.

I hope some of that money will be used to do something about the level crossing near the Elephant and Castle at Hemingfield. Ive nearly broke my neck twice now whilst out running over the crossing when its wet or icy. Also ive heard a few comment on theirs cars skidding on it when wet. Trust me, there will be an accident on there if somethings not done.
