A NEW operator will be running Barnsley's rail services and has promised more trains, improved fares and better station facilities.

Arriva will begin delivering the Northern rail franchise from April and have vowed to invest £1 billion in improvements.

It promises to refurbish trains, offer faster journeys, increased capacity and a wider range of ticketing options.

Customers will see refurbished seating and waiting areas, enhanced CCTV security and video help points.

Looks good, unless you are an occasional user of the hourly through trains to and from Nottingham.
It can be handy to get off the London train at Chesterfield, then proceed to Barnsley from the same platform a few minutes later, without having to rush around Sheffield station. I only make that journey a handful of times a football season, so I can't complain much.

Why do I have a feeling that improved fares means I will be paying more.
