Shocking life expectancy statistics revealed

Tuesday December 22 2015

MEN in Darton live around eight years longer than men in Athersley according to shocking statistics revealed by health chiefs.

They have commissioned to look into the number of premature deaths across the borough - people dying from diseases that are avoidable through lifestyle changes.

A spokesman said: "Too many people in our borough live their lives in avoidable disability caused by disease as a result of modifiable lifestyle issues including: smoking, obesity, poor diet, low levels of physical activity and excess alcohol consumption."Too many people in our borough die early from avoidable diseases such as cancer, heart disease and stroke. Smoking remains our biggest cause of avoidable death."

The figures show that the average life expectancy for a man living in Athersley South is 74.5 but in Darton it is 81.5.

The study links the health conditions to the deprivation scale of the villages.

Poor diet, excessive alcohol consumption and smoking leads to bad health - wow, what a shock!

No wonder Barnsley is in such a dire state when this is considered news.
