A BARNSLEY woman has been fined for wasting police time after making a fake rape claim.

The 33-year-old woman reported she had been raped in the town centre last weekend.

Chief Inspector Mark James said: “A thorough investigation was immediately carried out from the initial report received and the woman was provided support from specially trained officers.

“However, as the investigation progressed, a number of discrepancies in the claim became apparent and there was no evidence to corroborate or substantiate the woman’s claims, with CCTV footage confirming beyond doubt that an attack had not actually taken place.”

I think she should go to prison for waisting police resources & see how she feels, it is an awful crime & there are many women who havnt came forward when they have been attacked because they are to scared & then you've got these type of women making up stories & what if someone was arrested for a crime he hadn't committed.

She should be sent to prison for such a serious fake aligation a fine means nothing if the poor person she accused of rape was to have been wrongly found guilty of a crime he had not vomited he would be serving a prison sentence so I personally think she should get sentenced for the amount of time he would have got

It isn't just if they had been fohd guilty. What if someone had been arrested on suspicion just for being in the area at the time? The police have no problem with naming the suspect in a rape case but when a woman is proven to have made an allegation up completely she maintains her anonymity? That is a ridiculous case of double standards and does nothing at all to deter other people from making false claims in the hope of ruining someone's life.

I agree with all above comments. If someone had been arrested for this crime, it would be plastered all over the press. She is getting away with murder, yet one body knows who she is. Name her now. She gives woman, a bad name
