A COMMUNITY centre car park is being used by boy racers as a meeting place for a convoy who speed along the village, residents claim.

Locals have asked police to clamp down on the cars meeting in Shafton before someone is injured.

A resident said: "Screeching tyres, revving engines and loud exhausts are daily occurrences.”

A spokesman from Barnsley Council revealed that the local authority and South Yorkshire Police are working together to put an end to the problem.

They have stopped everyone using County Way, which is a non-residential area. The only way to stop it is to give friends and car enthusiasts somewhere to meet. If they are moved on, it will be just moving the problem elsewhere.
