PARENTS clambering to get their kids in the best schools are prompting a property shortage in Barnsley, according to an estate agent.

Butcher Residential says demand for family homes in Penistone, Silkstone and surrounding areas is outstripping supply.

Principal Ian Butcher said Penistone Grammar School has a strong record of helping students achieve excellent grades.

“Hundreds of new homes are being built in Penistone and the catchment is set to reduce even further in coming years. Families are thinking long and hard about where they put down roots.”

Property is also in high demand in Silkstone Common, Higham, Barugh Green and Dodworth, which have highly rated primary schools.

There should be no school any better than others! All schools should adopt the same principles as the ones doing well and stick to them. I've sent my eldest daughter to Wakefield seen as Barnsley just didn't cut it school wise. Seriously needs looking at
