EXTRA security has been drafted in to a local supermarket after a spate of thefts.

Petty thefts from the Grimethorpe Asda have rocketed since the summer.

An Asda spokesman confirmed that more security will be visible in the store as a result.

“Our colleagues work extremely hard to ensure theft doesn’t occur in our stores and when this does happen it is reported to the police.

“I wouldn’t say this is happening on a daily basis, because it isn’t, but we have been and will be continuing to have an increased security presence in our Grimethorpe store.”

I work in a smaller supermarket and we have had a dramatic rise in thefts. You sort of expect it from the druggies and bums but kids are getting worse too! The number of kids we catch on camera shoving stuff in their school bags or inside their blazers is unbelievable!
