Should pubs close earlier? - A WAB Debate

TOWN centre pub landlord Paul McNicholas believes pubs should close earlier to crackdown on booze-related anti-social behaviour.

Paul, who owns Annie Murray’s Irish Bar on the Victorian Arcade, is a former chairman of Pubwatch.

He believes late closing is to blame for a lot of the problems and thinks pubs should agree to close 'earlier' at 3am.

I agree with Paul, he knows what he is talking about. Who needs to be out in Barnsley in the early hours anyway? It's hardly Rome, Paris or Nice, is it.

should all close at 12.30, 12am last orders, 12.30am kick out time...some of the pubs open at 8am most of the other pubs open at 11 am and if that's not long enough to be getting drunk then there's something wrong with folk, far too many idiots walking about, just dreading my kids hitting the towns bars and clubs..

I agree with lisa. When we were young last orders in pubs was 11pm and clubs 2am and they weren't open all day. We always managed to enjoy our night out and didn't go out already loaded with alcohol. I would support shorter opening hours.

I agree with Ian, so that says one thing. Close at 11-0pm. The other side of it, it would save police time, r=the other thing is, it would save the NHS Millions.

anything after 2am is just lowlife trog time. nobody needs to still be drinking after that no matter how bad your life is. if the sensible ones call it a day before 1am, then spend the last hour rounding up the wasters. can't believe they are allowed to stay open after 3 as it is. sorry state of our town.
