Police appeal for witness after car smash in Cawthorne

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a car smashed into a wooden electrical pole bringing down two power cables in Cawthorne this morning.

Officers were called to Silkstone Lane near to the junction with Norcroft Lane at around 2.55am on Tuesday, September 1.

It is believed that a blue Volkswagen Golf crashed into a wooden electrical pole, which has collapsed and brought down two power cables.

The road has been closed while the power cables are made safe and may remain closed for some time today.

A police spokesperson said: "The Golf is understood to have sustained significant damage.

"The occupant or occupants of the car were not in the vehicle when emergency services arrived and police are keen to trace them, in case they have suffered injuries that require medical attention."

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting incident number 84 of 1 September 2015.
