Fundraiser Organised In Memory Of Amy

Wednesday May 30 2012

THE family of a young woman who died after falling from the roof of the Alhambra Centre have organised a fundraising event in her memory.

Amy Clark, 21, died in April after the fall which left the community stunned and hundreds of tributes flooding in for her.

Now, her family have organised a charity 24-hour paddle in a kayak to raise money for the Make A Wish Foundation, a charity which helps sick children.

Stepdad Wayne Copley said: "Before she died, Amy had been doing some fundraising for Make A Wish, selling jewellery and baked goods. She loved kayaking and the charity was close to her heart and it seems right that we carry it on for her.

"It's been a horrible time for the family but everybody has been brilliant. We went on the We Are Barnsley website and saw the messages there and it really was a comfort to us. People wrote some lovely things."

Ian Booth, the manager of the Alhambra Centre, has already volunteered to help with the fund-raising drive and is rounding up raffle prizes from the shops.

The event, which takes place on June 23, will see Wayne and Harry Copley, her step dad and step brother, and her brother Owen Clark take it in turns to paddle the kayak at Manvers Lake.
