Man stabbed after attempted robbery in Athersley North

POLICE are currently investigating a shocking attempted robbery in Athersley North which resulted in a man being stabbed.

A 33-year-old man was at his home on Shortfield Court at 9.55pm on Friday, August 14, when he walked downstairs to see three strangers.

The three men were allegedly armed with what is believed to be a small firearm and bats.

They threatened the 33-year-old man, before searching his home and returning with a kitchen knife.

The man was luckily able to escape from the suspects, running into a neighbour's garden where he raised the alarm.

He was later taken to hospital with a suspected knife wound and has since been released.

The three men had their faces covered and police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to assist with their enquiries.
