Figures reveal thousands in fuel poverty in Barnsley East

MP Michael Dugher has slammed the Government on energy policy as figures show thousands are in fuel poverty in Barnsley East.

Figures reveal 3,693 households are estimated to live in fuel poverty in Mr Dugher's constituency, which is nine per cent of the total households.

The energy market is dominated by the ‘Bix Six’ gas and electricity providers.

Mr Dugher said: “The energy market is broken and it’s ordinary people who are paying the price.

"Labour has called for a price freeze whilst the market is fixed and the Government needs to get a grip of this problem and take real action to tackle fuel poverty.

"It is unacceptable that thousands of families in my constituency will be worrying about the cost of heating their homes this winter."

I hope Mr Dugher will welcome fracking in Yorkshire then, it's the only way we will get cheaper fuel.

does he ever have anything good to say about his constituents. 91 percent of them don't live in fuel poverty. I bet the all have Sky TV and wifi too.

Lola you must be joking? Fracking in Yorkshire? This is not the solution. You know how much fracking damages the environment? We have nice water here, nice countryside, lets keep it that way please. Send those fracking companies packing before they destroy Barnsley and Yorkshire the same way they have destroyed the rest of the western world.

There is no fuel poverty for Duggy Dugher is there?
