ARSONISTS targeting farmland in Barnsley are putting lives at risk - and could end up putting local farms out of business.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has issued a warning following two crop fires in Barnsley in the last week - one at Cumberland Drive and one off Stacey Crescent in Grimethorpe.

A spokesman for the fire and rescue service said:“Not only do fires like this put lives at risk by potentially diverting fire engines away from other, life threatening incidents, they also cost farmers thousands of pounds in damage.

“The maximum sentence for arson is life in prison. People do get caught and do get prosecuted, so we urge people to report arsonists to the police.”

Anyone with information about people starting fires in their area should call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

They do get caught and they do get prosecuted do they? Utter rubbish. My son in law caught one of these lowlifes in the field next to us having set 2 fires and trying to light the 3rd, the police came, they took him away, then came back and said the lowlife had made a formal complaint against US for holding onto him till the Police arrived. The arsonist got off scot free and my son in law got a talking to by the Police. The arsonist was 16 we later found out. It's a joke

The scum bags that are doing it are that thick I don't think they understand where their bread and cereals etc come from. Want their hands chopping off, that would solve the problem. If I caught the ******** I'd be more than happy to sort them out myself.
