Campaign urges women of 70 to be aware of cancer symptoms

Monday July 13 2015

WOMEN over 70 are being urged to be aware of breast cancer symptoms as part of a new campaign.

Barnsley Council and Barnsley Clinical Commissioning Group are promoting the national Be Clear on Cancer campaign.

This highlights the risk of breast cancer for women over 70 and aims to increase knowledge of the less known breast cancer symptoms.

Older women are being urged to visit their doctor straight away if they notice any unusual or persistent changes to their breasts.

Coun Jim Andrews said: “In 2013, 65 women aged 70 and over from Barnsley were diagnosed with breast cancer with an 87.6 per cent survival rate.

"Spotting the signs of breast cancer is crucial as early diagnosis means treatment is more likely to be successful.”
