SOUTH Yorkshire Police have launched a campaign to tackle bike thefts across the county.

It is aimed at advising riders on the steps they should take to help keep their bikes secure.

During February and March there were 148 recorded bike thefts.

In South Yorkshire, a bait bike has been used to catch offenders, which has led to five people being arrested and charged with theft.

The bikes are fitted with GPS tracking systems, which allow officers to quickly locate them and take action if they are stolen.

Although petty theft of any kind should not be tolerated, I believe there are far more serious issues that the police could be focusing their attentions on.
Such as stabbings, shootings, assaults, muggings, robberies, rape, and other SERIOUS crimes that are carried out on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, gone are the days of policing which involved reducing serious crime and catching REAL criminals. Nowadays it seems to be all about who can solve the most petty "crimes" whilst bringing in the greatest revenue in fines.
