Hoyland's Cooplands Bakery Survives Mass Cull

Monday February 16 2015

STAFF at Cooplands in Hoyland have been told their jobs are safe.

The chain's recently announced it was shedding over 30 jobs and closing 39 retail stores because of a 'deterioration in trading performance'.

But workers at the King Street shop have been told their shop is one of just 41 that would stay open.

Kim Taylor, shop manager, said: "This has been hanging over us since February 3 when we were told we weren't getting paid. At that point they didn't know if they were closing the shop.

"We've now had a letter saying our contracts will be kept on by a new purchaser but we know nothing else. The business will have a different name and suppliers from a different bakery. But at least we will get paid."

The Hoyland store has been trading for more than 25 years and has five workers and a Saturday girl.
