Barnsley Fans 'Worst Behaved In The Country'

BARNSLEY FC has had more fans arrested at games this season than any other professional club in the country.

Police confirmed 14 fans from the town had each been charged with one count of violent disorder and bailed to appear before magistrates in Newcastle later this month.

It follows violent clashes in Burslem town centre and outside Vale Park involving Barnsley and Port Vale fans on September 20.

Chief executive Ben Mansford said the poor record was "affecting cash flow" and wrote about how there is a perception that Barnsley has the worst behaved fans out of 92 league clubs.

He wrote: "While statistics don't always bear the true picture, it's clear that we have got the most number of fans who have been arrested and we've had the most number of incidents connected to anti-social behaviour."

Those charged from Barnsley are aged between 16 and 53.
