Out Of Hours Learning Service Axed

Monday April 23 2012

Barnsley Town Hall Barnsley Town Hall

THREE out of hours learning centres will be closed and services in other areas reduced as part of council budget cuts.

The Out of Hours Network was set up to provide free activities for anyone up to age 18 to help children do better in school. It offered computer access with internet and email as well as homework help and study groups.

From May 1 out of hours learning services will no longer be offered at Central Library, Kendray Learning Centre or the Rockingham Centre at Birdwell.

The service at Dodworth will be cut to two sessions a week in school term time only and at Worsbrough Library it will only open every alternate Saturday.

Also reduced is the Hoyland LIFT project (reduced to one session a week) and Thurscoe Library (to one session a week and alternate Saturday mornings.)
