Job Seekers' Allowance Figures Fall

Tuesday December 23 2014

THE number of Barnsley people on job seekers' allowance has fallen to its lowest level in six-and-a-half years.

Latest figures show there were 3,742 claimants in November, down 4.1 per cent from the month before, and down 36 per cent since the same time last year when there were 5,883 claimants.

It's fallen nine months in a row. The last time it was lower in was in May 2008.

The figure now represents 2.5 per cent of the working age population in Barnsley, just behind the national rate of 2.0 but better than the Yorkshire and Humber rate of 2.7 per cent.
