Barnsley School One Of Country's Best

Wednesday November 19 2014

A BARNSLEY school has been placed 11th in a list of the country's top 100.

Teachers, children and parents at Silkstone Common Junior and Infant School have expressed their delight of its placing in the prestigious Sunday Times list.

Headteacher Simon Tabbner said the school’s position in the latest list, which was published on November 16, was due to the hard work of staff and children as well as the tremendous support of parents and governors.

He added: "When I became head in September 2013, I knew I wanted to make a difference and move the school further forward which was to be built upon the strong foundations set by parents, pupils and staff.

"This result demonstrates our academic achievements but does not show what fantastic success we have in music, drama and sport.

"The parents of our children are also aspirational and work extremely hard with us regarding what we all want for our children - that is to be happy and succeed.

"I believe when you walk into our school you feel that this is a community school which puts the child and their care first and at the centre of their learning."
