Doctors' Surgeries To Be Inspected

Thursday November 20 2014

DOCTORS' surgeries across Barnsley are to be inspected for the first time.

Almost half of surgeries in Barnsley - 16 in total - will be selected at random for inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

A spokesman for the CQC said the inspections were routine and there had been no concerns or complaints raised about surgeries in Barnsley.

The spokesman added: "As well as inspecting hospitals and care homes, we will also be inspecting GP surgeries and this is the beginning of inspections for GPs all across the country.

"We have only just started inspecting GPs' surgeries - they just weren't inspected before. We do it for hospitals, care homes, mental health trusts, ambulance services and other health organisations, so why should doctors surgeries be any different?"

The inspections are part of a new regime and the surgeries will have to meet the same criteria which is set for hospitals and care homes.

The spokesman added: "We will let people know if they're either good or poor when the reports are published on our website in February."

What do you think? Is this a good idea? Have your say below.

Pay a visit to Victoria Medical Practice. Victoria Road. Barnsley. It's an amazing practice. We moved there 3 years ago and its the best thing we ever did. We had been with our previous Drs 22yrs, and saw it move into decline, so got out fast!!

Well its about time the doctors I go to are a disgrace you can never get appointments they have you sat waiting a hour when you go to your appointment they have rude ill mannered receptionists and some of the doctors are absolutely useless get told to go home and watch videos on YouTube to make your self better they forget to send your referral to cardiology and dont contact you with results then everytime anyone complains it gets swept under the carpet and that's one of the biggest doctors surgery's in Barnsley for you

Have to agree with Ada, nothing but praise for Victoria Medical centre. Staff are always polite, and all the Doctors are excellent.

Don't you have to go to a doctor in your catchment area Ada because if you don't I would be happy to go somewhere else

hillbrow surgery definitely needs it. Some of the receptionists attitudes are disgusting and half the doctors can't be bothered to diagnose a condition properly they want you in and out in 5 minutes and just give you a prescription to pacify you.

Mr C quote doctors do any thing to get out of prescriptions unquote, may be its because you don't need it, or maybe you use medication like smarties.

Or mabey you don't know first thing about my medical condition so your comment is pathetic and you made yourself look a complete idiot how would you know how many tablets I take and not all medication is in tablet form

@Mr C people are not really interested in your medical condition, perhaps you should keep it to yourself. This post is about GP surgeries being inspected, not about your ills and ailments. I for one am all for it.

Why do I get the impression you are arguing amongst your multiple split personality selves?
You clearly have psychological problems me thinks.
WAB the log in / registration system cannot come soon enough to stop these imbeciles.

GOOD LORD you are so right, i hardly come on wab anymore due to the imbeciles here, i cant be doing with the arguing, its useless, when i contacted WAB about it they said, "its entertainment" "everyone is entitled to their opinion" meh! you are getting fewer and fewer visitors because of the imbeciles. on a positive note, Ashville medical centre once you get passed the snotty argumentative receptionists are great, the doctors are trainees, and are still learning, if they could get rid of the reception staff it would be a great surgery!
