Local Businessman Donates Christmas Lights To Village

Tuesday November 11 2014

A BARNSLEY businessman is donating over £5,000 of lights to bring Christmas joy to a local village for the first time in its history.

Eddie Riby, who owns Direct Global Trading Ltd, has teamed up with local councillors Alice Cave, Linda Burgess and Sharon Howard to provide Barugh Green with their own Christmas lights.

On November 20 at 4pm, Father Christmas will switch on the lights at Barugh Green Primary School, lighting up a 16ft Christmas tree - the first tree in the school's history - as well as 17 street lamp posts. A special Christmas choir will also be in attendance.

Eddie said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to be in a position where I can give back to my local community and bring some Christmas joy to the residents of Barugh Green.

"It's something I have wanted to do for a long time and I can't wait to see everyone's faces. Christmas is all about creating magic and I can only hope it will be a magical moment for the residents of Barugh Green."

Further Christmas celebrations will take place after the big switch on at Eddie's local Christmas business, UK Christmas World at the Metro Trading Centre, until 8pm.

The 'Winter Wonderland' will be open and Father Christmas will be there with two reindeer to greet local residents and guests. Festive food and drink will also be served.
