Tributes Paid To Man After Unexplained Death

Wednesday October 29 2014

NEIGHBOURS of a 51-year-old father who died after collapsing outside a pub in Cawthorne have been left shocked and upset at his death.

Don Senior, of Maple Road, Mapplewell, is thought to have been drinking in the Spencer Arms with friends on October 17.

He was found unconscious outside the pub at 10pm and died in hospital the following night.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Mr Senior's death and a 57-year-old man has been arrested and bailed.

Neighbours said Mr Senior, who was divorced, was a "lovely, friendly man" who they did not have a bad word to say about.

Neighbour and friend Ian Buttery, 69, of Maple Road, said: "I knew him well and he was a nice bloke.

"Almost everyone else around here are elderly, so he's the last person you'd expect this to happen to with him being one of the youngest.

"We're as much in the dark as everyone else about what has happened."

He said Mr Senior worked, was fit and active and otherwise quite well.

Police said a post-mortem had proved inconclusive and toxicology tests were being carried out.

DCI Craig Jackson added: "The police are currently investigating the circumstances which led up to the collapse and that investigation is ongoing.

"Further tests are being undertaken as a result of the post-mortem to fully establish the cause of death.

"There were injuries consistent with a fall but other tests need to be carried out."

Anyone who may have driven or walked past the pub between 9.50pm-10.15pm on Friday are asked to contact police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 1368 of October 17.
