Council Apologises To Angry Residents About Bin Problems

Wednesday October 22 2014

BARNSLEY Council has apologised to residents who still haven't received bigger bins after a six-month wait.

Scores of people have contacted We Are Barnsley in the past two weeks claiming that their orders have fallen on deaf ears, with many waiting months for their delivery.

Angry resident Rhonda Moore said: "When they made changes to bin collections and recycling I was told any bigger bins needed would be delivered for free.

"I let them know that I needed a larger blue and brown bins, but that was in March. It's October and I'm still waiting.

"I ring every month and get told they're not sure why it's taking so long."

A council spokesperson said: "So far we’ve delivered bins to over 30,000 residents who ordered their bins in response to the recycling changes introduced in March.

"However, it’s become apparent that there have been some orders that have been overlooked. Therefore we're in the process of identifying these properties and we will be completing further deliveries to them over the next few weeks.

"We apologise to any residents who have been waiting for bins to be delivered."

Any resident who ordered their recycling bins prior to the end of July and have not yet received them should contact the council on 01226 772045.

The bin service is simply NOT FIT FOR SERVICE, what with late or missed collections.

As for the bins, the green ones in particular, are either substandard or simply damaged in the collection process, with many residents having them gaffer taped together, possibly not aware that the Council will replace it.

This is ridiculous. we are lucky if our bins are collected the same week that they should. our street looks amazing with all 4 bins out for every house because no one knows when the hell they will be emptied. no idea why Barnsley council changed the schedule that was working. Rather than just apologising they need to get their act together.

It's clear there is no system in place even now. It's clear that they don't have them to deliver but they don't record anything and never communicate back to their customers. If I had received the amount of negative press as our council has I would be breaking my neck to make things right. But as everyone keeps pointing out we keep voting in the same old deadbeats in the old boys club

What seems to pass the council by these days is that the council tax payer is a customer and therefore should be treated as such. If councils were a private organisations (as they keep trying to tout themselves where you could choose to pay it would be the most inefficient businesses in the country and bankrupt in months,

bundy@ I am disabled and do not have access to a vehicle , that's why I been waiting for 7 months for my new bin to be delivered,

Reply Posted by GR on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 17:49
You have to take your old bin to swap with. No way am I putting a manky used bin in my car when I've been promised for the last 10 months they would deliver.

Reply Posted by dannyjoe on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 16:49
Same ere I live on Baden street n still got no bigger bins n we ordered em in July but people on high street av got there's its just a pain in arse when there's 2 adults 2children n a dog in our house so we in desperate need in bigger bins as the small ones don't hold as much rubbish as we throw out...n yes we do recycle.

Reply Posted by GR on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 17:47
10 months here!!! I keep emailing and get promised it'll be within the next few weeks, or get ignored.

Reply Posted by mr bamford on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 17:57
I phoned 12months since for mine and am still waiting for them

Reply Posted by Mr Brammer on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 18:38
Blue bin been on order since 6th February. Numerous phone calls and email but still nothing. According to what I'm told they have them in stock but are charging £15 for delivery or can be collected from the depot.
There is no way on this Earth i will pay to have one delivered, or collect one when the Council just bumbles along from one half arsed scheme to the next without seeing one to the end first.
There's plenty of money at the council for temporary market stalls and sculptures outside the Town Hall but surely the basics should be taken care of first.
It's about time the population of this town got together and refused to pay Council taxes until these calamities are put right.

If you not happy collect from depot. Theres one person collecting and delkvering new bins. This perosn cannot cope.

Reply Posted by warren on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 18:50
observer- not everybody has access to transport, I was promised a new bin 7 months ago, if the council cant cope with the deliveries, then the council should have stuck to the old scheme until enough bins were available, I find it unfair to having to wait a month for bins to be emptied when there are overflowing after aweek due to have 6 people in our household,

Reply Posted by Mr Brammer on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 19:01
Totally agree with Warren. I have access to a vehicle to go collect a bin but why should I (and I definitely won't)?The council came up with the scheme and should have ensured they were able to carry out deliveries etc as promised within a reasonable amount of time.
It's not the publics fault that one person is having to do it all and I can sympathise with that but the fault lies at the feet of the councils planners on this.
Nothing but a farce.

I went to the depot for mine, because I could. Glad I did, its just a pain off the brain!

Reply Posted by Ada on Wednesday October 22 2014 at 19:17
Since the new collections came in, we have NEVER had a collection missed! The men are as regular as clockwork. Well done. If I have any grumbles its, why do they leave the bins in the middle of the road?? Please return from collection point!!! Thank you.

Order edge my blue and brown larger bins in March still waiting. Fed up of chasing and being fobbed off. Mum ordered hers a week after me and she got them a few weeks later. My paper bag has also been stolen so I'm using a sack plus they're terrible quality. Not happy with service we're paying for.

We got a letter from our council to say "place your bins out as usual and when they have been emptied, leave them out as they will be replaced with the new replacement bins later that day and your old bins will be taken away".
This is exactly what happened.
What is wrong with this councils planning for such a simple project not to mention roadworks ???. We are not Barnsley, We are Melbourne.

I last rang the council almost 2 months ago and they told me that my bins would be delivered within the next 3 weeks. I'm still waiting and expect to be doing so in 2015. It's a joke!!!

I'd be happy to collect any ones bin from smithies and deliver to your home for £5.

If you need to return your old bin I would do that for another £2.

You arrange with council I will do the rest.

I will also donate 10% of the money to Barnsley Hospice.
