Police Release CCTV Image After Petrol Station Robbery

Tuesday October 14 2014

A CCTV image has been released after a robbery took place at a Barnsley petrol station.

Police are trying to locate the man in the CCTV images as he may be able to assist with the investigation.

On August 18 at approximately 9.30pm, a white Vauxhall Astra van pulled into the Shell garage on Sheffield Road, Hoyland Common.

The driver got out and began to fill the van with diesel from the pump. The 59-year-old garage employee was suspicious of the man and suspected he may attempt to drive off without paying.

He approached him and asked If he would be paying by cash or card, at which point a second man, who had been sat in the passenger seat, began to reverse the van and the original driver stepped away from the pump.

The 59-year-old opened the passenger door to try and stop the van, however the driver continued to reverse trapping him between the diesel pump and the open door, before speeding off and throwing the man through the space between the petrol pumps on the forecourt.

The original driver then chased the van and jumped into the passenger side as the door was still open.

The van then sped off onto Sheffield Road in the direction of Thorpe Hesley and Chapeltown.

The employee sustained bruising to his arm and leg as a result of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting incident number 1114 of August 18.

Sheesh would it kill WAB to actually put on decent sized pictures that people can view on phones etc?

Once again this is useless

It's directly from the police, June. We have no say in the image's size! It's not our fault...

Im assuming they got license plate on camera?

Yeah cos criminals with intentions of robbing all use their own vehicles to carry out crimes, some even wear name tags too

@mr dumb obvious maybe, but surely it wouldnt hurt to check as part of an investigation otherwise everyone would use their own plates knowing the police will just think theyre fake. Process of elimination. Clearly if policing was left to you, I may as well go and do something like this… with a name tag

In addition, what would be the point of posting their images then? Are we to assume that theyre are smart and wearing masks. I mean, if these ppl are dumb enough to go into an area that is cctv controlled knowing that there is a high chance of being spotting/caught, then I would suspect theyre dumb enough to use there own plates.

Why, has it taken from august. To put this on now? And you know, come on its groundhog day. The tories are in again, this kind of thing started to occur when they were in last term. It doesnt suprise me stuff like this is happening if people cant afford to buy items because of government policies, which have probably had a significant effect on their lives, they will steal it. End of..its not right, but what do you expect??

Lmfao @miss hopefull are you for real what's right for one person is not always right for some one else. A thief is a thief don't go nicking stuff and you won't get into trouble I hope the police trace your ip address and take you to court for perventing the course of justice seen as it's there in black and white you know the person and how does the right thing mean different to different people no if your a scumbag like him then you'll keep his dirty secret so you don't become a little grasser but at end of day you wouldn't like it if some robbed your house or place of business n people knew who it is and didn't help you out in your hour of need selfish little b**ch he should go to prison for being a thief
