Problem Streets To Be Cleaned Up

Tuesday October 14 2014

PROBLEM streets will be targeted and cleaned up as part of a revolutionary new scheme.

Six Goldthorpe streets have been identified as being areas that have issues with tipping and littering.

Several agencies will lead the clean-up and then attempt to build relationships with residents to ensure improvements are kept up.

The roads having issues are Frederick Street, Albert Road, Poplar Avenue, Princess Road, Wellington Street and Flower Street.

All the streets are located next to each other and have been identified as an area in need of particular attention.

Paul Brannan, head of community services and enforcement for Barnsley Council, said: "We will have more bodies on the ground in the next couple of weeks but it's a different and innovative approach.

"It's something we're looking at doing across the borough but Goldthorpe is perhaps the area with the most problems."

To be fair the owners of the chippy are decent people and are part of the development group i just wish theyd come to help people who dont sit on the step smoking drinking swearing at the top of their voices so the dead can hear. This Paul Brannan person needs to concentrate on people who pay council tax and need their street sorting not through our doing buy the councils lack of maintenance and ignorance.

Agreed Carl there are worse streets ie Railway view. Odd though that the streets to be cleaned are leading towards the expensive new estate on Barnburgh Lane.

as usual spending money and time in the wrong places.

Mr Paul Brannon there are parts of town, two of them gateways to Barnsley, right flipping eye sores. Shame on the council for letting these places get this bad!

Have the people there got wheelie bins? Do the council turn up and collect rubbish?

Birthwaite Rd Kexborough has loads of litter from school children who just leisurely throw it on the floor, I've reported this to the school & the council but still no change!

People that fly tip and leave rubbish all over are just scrubbers with no pride.

I can only comment with the fact that it is only the private landlords that have caused this. 34 years ago this area was a sought after residential area. Local councillors have said its a dumping ground for unwanted in Barnsley Sheffield Rotherham and Doncaster low life.

to all of those people that live in Central Barnsley and complain about their streets not getting cleaned up. The Dearne Area of Barnsley has always been the poor relation of this borough. Small towns such as Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe, Bolton on Dearne and Great Houghton, have for many years been neglected by the borough council and since the demise of the coal mines (5 of them), in that area have steady gone down hill to the point of affecting the people that love there. Its about time the borough council turned their sights on that area and finally got off their arses and did something about it.

I'm sick to death of complaining about Carlton Street in Grimethorpe! The residents are disgusting. Openly dump rubbish outside & the council clean it up free of charge! Repeatedly asked council for preventative measures to be taken (cctv?) but never get a response!

At least these places are getting recognised Highgate has had feck all for nearly 20 years. Weve had to sit and watch whilst the council houses further up the road in goldthorpe get new walls driveways roofs they wont even come tarmac our path as it hasnt been done for 20 years at least they keep saying theres no money and we all know there is theres 2 useless councillors that could do with getting rid of thatl save quite a few grand to help us out. We had a few million given to us and Barnsley council used that elsewhere as usual.
