Monk Bretton Library To Close

Friday October 10 2014

MONK Bretton library is to close.

The building, on Lamb Lane, will close on November 1.

Coun Jenny Platts, cabinet spokesperson for communities, said: "It's never an easy decision or one that we've taken lightly to close the building.

"Unfortunately, the building is no longer fit for purpose and is beyond viable repair. We simply don’t have the funds available, around £130,000, to carry out the repairs to make the building suitable for everyone to access and use."

People who have previously used the library will be able to make the most of the new collection at Silverdale Community Centre from November 3.

What is wrong with it? And why will it cost £130k to repair?

You will all have to go and read the inscriptions on the new glass commissioned art pieces in front of the Town Hall, that's where your library money might have been spent. What a wonderful council we have !!

Council not 12 months ago telling us that all libraries in the borough had been saved. Jokers.

More penny-pinching,fake 'austerity' by the Government while they spend £20 million an hour on manufactured wars.
