Parents Overwhelmed By Public Response

Friday September 19 2014

PARENTS of a 22-year-old footballer who died after collapsing at training say they're "overwhelmed" by the funds raised in his honour.

A fund for Mykal Porter - known to friends as Harry - has amassed nearly £2,000 so far with money still pouring in.

More than £600 was raised through a charity match held last Sunday, his work colleagues at Capita, Manvers, raised £647 and on Tuesday £622 was donated at his funeral in lieu of flowers.

Parents Norman and Anne, of Bank Street, Stairfoot, said they were extremely touched.

"It's still coming in, we just can't believe it. It's all going to go back into the football club."

Mykal was a player-manager at Carlton Athletic.

A minute's silence was held at league games across Barnsley on Sunday.

Ann and Norman you must be immensely proud of your youngest son. The amount of respect that Mykal has earnt during his short life has got to be a comfort to you both. I can't begin to understand how you feel but knowing the things you've taught him in life have made him into the person he was must make you feel proud. His memory will live on forever xx
