A BARNSLEY soldier will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Dale Harris, who would have turned 25 just a few days ago, was a rifleman in the 2nd Battalion The Rifles and passed away when a tractor collided with the car they he was travelling in.

The weekend before the tragic crash he had been home on leave in Worsbrough Bridge with his wife Carly, two daughters, his parents and brothers and sisters.

A funeral service with full military honours will be held on at 1pm at St Thomas's Church, Worsbrough Dale, followed by a reception at The Boatman's Rest.

His family have requested no flowers, but instead there will be two collection boxes in the church - one for the Army Benevolent Fund and the other for 2 Rifles, a charity for injured soldiers.
