Barnsley Mums Take Part In Breastfeeding Event

Thursday August 7 2014

LOCAL mums came together to take part in an annual breastfeeding event at Locke Park.

Hosted by Barnsley Council on August 1, 33 children took part in the Big Latch On record attempt at Locke Park.

This year, 13,798 children latched on from 31 countries across the world.

Kay Bennett, from Barnsley Council, said: “It was wonderful to see so many mums feeding their babies together.

"Families made a huge effort to be there, many were accompanied by dads, grandmas and other supporters.

"It’s another step in our journey to make breastfeeding, especially in public, the norm."

Sid it's egotistical people like you that these young mothers are bothered about there is nothing more natural than a mother breast feeding her baby and many years ago was excepted in public as the norm and should be again Sid if you have an issue with a young mother feeding her child perhaps you should look towards your own attitude

I KNOW all about breastfeeding, everyone knows about it, so why shout it from the rooftops? What is their point? It will never be fully accepted in public because not everyone thinks its right. There have been posts on here(now deleted) that were childish, vulgar and Pervy, that says it all. As far as breastfeeding being a natural thing to do,so are many other things, but,I don't want to see most of those either. OK,breastfeed your babies! I don't care,so why do you want to show it off? Again what's the point? They're telling us things we already know. In fact,I think its very respectful of a man to politely look the other way,and I think its respectful of women if they breastfeed sympathetically towards others. Believe it or not many women don't like people to seeit, my three daughters in law in fact. They always discreetly went into another room. Let's keep some respect for one another that what I think
anyway. There are two sides to every debate and that's mine. Its obvious many women don't want to breastfeed in public, hence the event in Locke Park.

Think of this scenario do you ever watch wildlife programmes or go to the zoo if you saw a monkey ect or a zebra feeding from its mother what would you do,and there rests my point its as natural as that its only the pornography industry who have sexualsed a woman's breasts in such a way as you say people sniggering ect ,would they snigger watching a mare feeds its foal no that's the answer.

I agree with that point too @guy.

All mothers should have the right to breast feed there babies without being looked at and being complained about its what they for people need to grow up

Reply Posted by sid on Friday August 8 2014 at 10:31
They will always be looked at by some @toni. some teens will snigger, some women will not like it and some men will perv. They do have the right to breastfeed, but others also have the right to think its not what they want to see. You can't make everyone see this with the same view. People have opinions, you can't change that.

Barnsley council have cut jobs, and services, have on of the worst records for pot hole repairs in the country, but can fine money to get involved with this. What had this got to do with the council?

youre right @Rog. 33 children were involved,it would be interesting to know how much the council did actually spend on this? Lets hope it was sod all, surely theyre not so stupid with funds.

Breastfeeding is a natural thing to do! Women used to do it anywhere without drawing attention. Ditto deficating and urinating in the street. It has nothing to do with exhibitionism. Oh wait a minute.....yes it is!
