Barnsley Man Returns Home With Silver Medal

Monday August 4 2014

A BARNSLEY man returned from the Commonwealth Games with a silver medal.

Pole vaulter Luke Cutts, 26, from Thurnscoe, was involved in a dramatic head-to-head jump-off with England teammate Steven Lewis as the pair battled for the gold medal.

A raucous Hampden Park crowd witnessed the pair become the last two men standing in the event after getting the better of their rivals, but it was Lewis who triumphed with a jump of 5.55m.

Cutts - who failed to make 5.60m - ended up with a silver but insisted he was "happy" with the result.

Well done, Luke!
