Troublesome Roundabout To Be Improved

Thursday July 24 2014

Stairfoot roundabout Stairfoot roundabout

THE notorious Stairfoot roundabout is to undergo another round of major changes in a bid to tackle its persistent queues.

As a condition of having its planning permission to convert the nearby B&Q store into a supermarket granted, Sainsbury's is footing the bill to widen the road.

The roundabout will be made into three lanes all the way around by widening the section between Doncaster Road and Hunningley Lane.

Doncaster Road and Bleachcroft Way, where the store's exit meets traffic from Wombwell Lane, will all be made into three lanes through widening and the removal of bus lanes.

The bus lane through the central island will also be closed.

"I don't think it will improve matters at all," said an unconvinced Coun Karen Dyson. "I think it will make things worse. It's going to make it even more of a bottleneck."

What do you think? Will the plans rectify the roundabout's ongoing traffic problem? Have your say below.

Whilst they are taking the opportunity to carry out major alterations to this area, might as well they not just get rid of the round about and have traffic going from Wombwell Lane going under an underpass to stop the need for the traffic to stop at the roundabout coming from that direction? Especially as they are closing the already useless bus lane! Otherwise we just have the same situation again as the roads will naturally be busier with a Sainsbury's store rather than a B&Q there so the over all effect of adding an extra lane will be lost!

What's going go happen with all the traffic whilst they do it, how much disruption is it going to cause? I just got a job at Tescos and was looking forward to the easy drive to work from Monk Bretton

The roundabout was much better without the lights,it needs a road doing from Hunningly lane to b&q car park to ease it from that side.

What about the baby rabbits that live on the roundabout, they are all so young and cute..

i see them and think what a smart place to build a home :D and the roundabout will only get worse with a busy supermarket, gonna tripple or quadrouple if not more what goes into b and q at the minute. closing the buslanes and the center go through will help i think as those traffic lights dissrupt the flow, but it needs a complete re think, its barely an island!!! its so disjointed and confusing! make it round and simple and have good visibility and simpler road lay outs and markings!

There are families of rabbits on the roundabout and theyve lived there not bothering anyone for a long time. Their welfare must be taken into consideration, they've made that roundabout their home...Animal welfare!

They're wild rabbits, if they're caught and moved elsewhere they'll be just as happy as they were before.

Har Har, if ever there was an advert for the incompetence of Highways and planning at BMBC then Stairfoot Roundabout and The wickes bypass are an example of it. So now we will have a bus lane running straight through the middle of the roundabout that will no longer be used. I can remember my old Grandad puzzling over what the heck they were doing there when I was a teenager Im now in my 30s and still they tamper. It would be funny if it wasn't for the fact that we foot the bill and have to adapt to whatever ludicrous change comes in next

How do you apply for jobs?

Not by asking about it on WAB that's for sure. Why don't visit the website of the place you want a job for?
