Bin Collection Changes - A WAB Guide

Wednesday July 9 2014

BARNSLEY residents' bin collections will change this week due to industrial strikes.

Thursday sees a national day of action, and collections for the town's bins will be altered.

Those who usually have their grey bins emptied on a Thursday will have to keep them out on Friday, too.

Brown and blue recycling bins - and the white sacks - will be collected on either Saturday or Monday.

The next green bin collection with be on Thursday, July 24.

Commercial waste collections will take place this Saturday, and clinical waste collections will take place on Thursday, July 17.

Those who have their waste collected on Fridays will also see changes. Green bins will not be collected this week in order to prioritise Thursday's grey bin collections, so the next green bin pick-up will be on Friday, July 25.

All other collections scheduled for this Friday will take place as normal.

Clare lodge a complaint through (01226) 787898, I did this and had my brown bin within a week. I just explained that I had sent in numerous requests and that I was struggling to fit all my plastics and tins in the smaller bin.

The collections are a joke, they empty them when they like, there have been loads of times they haven't been on collection days, since changing the bins over & adding the silly white bag that blows all over the street as soon as it's emptied, they don't seem to know when they're supposed to come & empty them. Just change it back to how it was, it's ridiculous! At least when there was just the grey bin 1 week, we knew the week after it was recycling week, but now, it's all mixed up & people don't know which bin to put out most weeks or how long to leave them out for because they never collect on the day they're supposed to.

Reply Posted by Scott on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 12:33
In cudworth no one can even leave the bins out because james upton sets fire to every bin he walks past the silly little boy

Reply Posted by Margaret on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 12:34
Spot on mr c they always manage to put them back slap bang outside our garage doors and that was not where they found them no thought what so ever for the dozen or so bins we have to shift to open garage doors have told them umpteen times and still they do it thick or what

Reply Posted by Amanda on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 12:39
The amount of times my grey bin hasn't been emptied is ridiculous, i spend more time going to the tip than they do emptying bins

Reply Posted by The Lord on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 13:29
Hey duferu... because the country was in such a better state under the Labour Government with a grossly inflated public sector draining the finances of the country?

They r never emptied on time anywY

The new system brought in a few months ago is a farce. It took months to get new larger bins, the old ones still haven't been picked up, and I've seen them put out for our Thursday collection and not emptied until the following Tuesday. Pathetic.

Bins either get left half full or not emptied council is *****......and the dump it sites have got a rule now where you can only take 10 sacks of rubble every 6 months another DUMB rule brought in by councils........im in middle of doing my garden and cant take sacks to dump site???????? Do they want people to fly tip.

Where do all you people live? The bins and bags are always collected when they are supposed to be where I live .I'm on assisted collections and mine are always emptied and put back where they came from .These men do an unpleasant job week in and week out stop knocking them!!

Reply Posted by Paula on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 15:17
Utter rubbish literally... I have never known such a shambles as our waste disposal system.. I have my grey bin jet washed and a fresh black bag to in every time they are emptied and on top of that all the rubbish that we put in goes in black bin bags and tied but because they are left for two weeks we still get maggots. It is totally discussing. I don't know what more I can do. I agree with recycling as much as we can and have no problem with that but our grey bin should be emptied every week especially in the summer months. Oh and I'm still waiting for my bigger brown and blue bins too!!

Reply Posted by cathy on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 15:35
We should have have our grey bins emptied on tuesday but they weren't so whats happening to tuesdays collection. Will they collect it if rubbish is put at the side of the bin too .

Reply Posted by The Lord on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 16:02
Tony - do what I did... put them in black bin bags and put them in the grey bin over a series of weeks. Shifted a good 15 bags that way.

Reply Posted by bruce banner on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 16:29
My green bin been out since last Wednesday and everyone else's got empted and took some black bags out other week as loads of rubbish as new house and bloke said I was taking the p**s

Reply Posted by disillusioned on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 17:18
I actually used to enjoy recycling. My bit for the environment and all that. But, until the council get their act together and the collections become regular again, all mine goes in the grey bin. It's the only one that's regular and not blocking the streets.!

Can someone explain to me why a large number of bins are getting split during collection, poor design or poor handling

Reply Posted by Really? on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 18:34
Nobody will even notice - we are all so used to it being on the wrong day we don't even know what the right day is anymore !

Reply Posted by Steve on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 20:03
Looks like the local park will be covered in rubbish this is a joke and really getting annoying everyone should stop paying council tax see what happens then just another thing to add to one of the bin workers chucking my bin 5 doors down because he saw me put a rubbish bag in an half empty bin on the street Absolute JOKE

Reply Posted by Karen Rennard on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 20:36
Last time the green bin was left for 2 weeks before being emptied, the smell from the bin when it was emptied was absolutely disgusting. May as well use it as a compost bin.

Reply Posted by Andrew on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 23:24
The collections are a joke bins are often emptied late if at all. The blue and brown bins are no where big enough for a normal family, and when they are finally emptied the bins are strewn
all over the pavement blocking access for pedestrians and the bags instead of being put back over the gate post where it was hung is just thrown on the floor to blow away. Why not put it inside the bin? All in all a very poor service

I've been waiting for my new bins since February when I ordered them. I've reordered them 3 times. Which idiot changed it and didn't make sure the bins were available

Reply Posted by sid on Thursday July 10 2014 at 00:01
My bins were set on fire 8 weeks ago. I haven't received my new bins yet either, I have foned, but the person I spoke to was clueless. She had no access to lists for bin distribution, I don't blame her,in fact I felt sorry for her,she was befuddled and embarrassed. Its obvious the system doesn't work from the organisation right down to the actual collection. It seems all of the complaints that have been registered have made not one iota of difference. Some one needs to take the situation in hand, its rubbish! (Scuze the pun).

Having a dispensation due to old age spares us all this trouble. It works like clockwork.

Everyone will have had a leaflet letting them know what date to put out which bins I am sat here looking at mine. Yes the new way is crap and the old way is better but it's NOT the bin mens fault it's the office staff who decided to change it. The bin men only do what they are told to do

Reply Posted by Kerry on Thursday July 10 2014 at 09:29
My grey bin is split on 2 places all the way down each side caused by bin men so why should I have to pay for a new one??!? My bin is usually 2 doors down when I get home from work. The white recycling bag is in the recycling bin as it's a total waste of time. Green bin no longer needed now as I don't have a garden but council won't collect it!!!!! Why???? It's not my fault you changed everything without thinking things through!!!! Worse bin collection service I've ever known!!!!!

Reply Posted by Rich on Thursday July 10 2014 at 09:32
Whoever decided it was best to change the system should be sacked. I took a screen shot of collection days but what use is it if they're not gonna turn up when they're supposed to..

Reply Posted by bill on Thursday July 10 2014 at 10:00
If you have excess rubbish wait for the next travellers to pitch up nearby and just add your bags to theirs as the council remove it free of charge

Reply Posted by Carol Howard on Thursday July 10 2014 at 12:14
Barnsley Council I hope you have read the above comments and will act upon all these complaints. It's easy to see you have a serious issue with bin collections. Grey bins once a fortnight in the summer = bin full of maggots and like above mine is jet washed every time you empty it. The rest of the bin collections are a joke round here

Reply Posted by Student Grant on Thursday July 10 2014 at 12:45
Blue bins and (not fit for purpose) White sacks for paper have been on the streets up Racecommon Road for a over a week. This longstanding LABOUR council has got to be amongst the most inept in the Country.

My grey bin hasn't been emptied for 6 weeks and it stinks and surrounded by flies!!!!!! Icarnt go to tip with it as I.m disabled and don't drive so I just have to put up with it until they decide to empty it!!!!

Reply Posted by gray h on Thursday July 10 2014 at 18:33
its alright telling you to leave your bins out and they will be emptied with in a couple of days but for people like me that live a bit lonely it makes it look like house is empty as for large brown and large blu i must be moving up list as i put my order in in feb bring back the old bin men like me dad who used to run with metal bins on there shoulder but they was always emptied

Reply Posted by helen on Thursday July 10 2014 at 20:13
my bin and most of the streets bins , still on the payment waiting to be emptied from 1st july, disgrace this council..

Reply Posted by joss on Thursday July 10 2014 at 21:43
' Disabled ' you are clearly lucky enough to get your bins emptied as and when they should be! Most of us arent, our bins NEVER get emptied on time, we can sometimes be waiting weeks! I have a 6 month old and we go through nappies like wild fire, leaving them in a bin stinking outside for weeks, (never mind them only getting emptied fortnightly! ) is not an option resulting in us having to take our rubbish to the tip! I dont think we can blame the bin men however due to cut backs etc, its the useless council, they concentrate on making the town centre look lovely but all the streets look disgusting with all the rubbish lying about!
It was also on the tele other day how they are trying to bring in fines for not recycling , so if this is the case can we also expect compensation for our bins not been emptied?!
Barnsley council is an absalute joke!

so the green bins have to stay out another two weeks smelling in the hot weather, lovely.! I have been waiting for a large brown bin and a blue one since January and kept been told there was a backlog ,when I rang last week and said I wanted them to check my address they told me I wasn't on the list and they would send them out ASAP and I still don't have them.

Reply Posted by Jay on Friday July 11 2014 at 20:09
They can barely handle the new waste collection time table/shedule. Yet they then go on strike.... ya de ya de ya.... and what a load of rubbish haha (excuse the pun) grey bin is out and didnt get collected... thats not "all other bins will be collected as usual" is it? This change they have made has been nothing but trouble, constantly missed collections, i STILL dont have a blue bin! or a bigger BROWN BIN!!!! how long do we have to wait?, were told to leave cardboard in a cardboard box and they will take it, but do they? do they bollocks!!!!! so i have a garage full to the brim with cardboard.... no bin for it, AND they cant even collect the bins on the right days... should have left it how it was

and everyone thinks the same too.... so why cant we just have it back the old way? we pay for this service, if it is not good enough then why dont we get listend to? whats the point in paying if your not getting what you pay for? if i was paying for 40 meg internet and not getting it, id have a right to have something done or get a refund from whoever the provider is, and they have a watch dog making sure they behave, so dont you think its about time we got a refund of our council tax for the bad roads for the bad services? or atleast have a watch dog telling them how to get the ******* job done!!!!! BARNSLEY is a complete joke! saying that i doubt they have the money to spend either! Not saying that labour would give them any more to spend though either!!!!!

Reply Posted by Jay on Friday July 11 2014 at 20:17
Someone should organise a facebook page to call a kind of strike of our own. putting all our bins out all the rubbish all the recyling, mix it all up dump in on the street all on the same day and just refuse to remove it untill it is collected. we need to make a point! get the to book their ideas up and realise that THIS JUST ISNT GOOD ENOUGH, it was fine how it was before, and now it is a shambles!!!! Not alone the fack i have to have 5 ******* bins in my garage, bought a nice new house thinking great extra storage space as i now have a garage, but i was wrong, i bought a house and a nice shiney new BIN STORE!!!!! rediculess!

Reply Posted by sue swift on Friday July 11 2014 at 21:09

I just don't get the logic of all the bin changes, my green bin was just nice for the cardboard and the blue one held all my paper, now my blue bin is not big enough for all my cardboard and the white bag is a joke. So all in all a total mess up. Now started burning all my rubbish causing pollution. Where's the logic in of the change. I have two brown bins still sat on roadside from Thursday, so much for collection next day after strike. Anyone got any answers to why the change.
