BARNSLEY Hospice has marked 20 years since it opened its doors with the opening of its latest £700,000 extension.

The project, which has been mainly funded by the NHS, has created a new patient lounge, dining area, spiritual room and new treatment rooms.

Staff say this will enable the hospice to provide more care to patients and their families in Barnsley who have a life-limiting illness.

The 20-year anniversary was also used to celebrate the volunteers and staff who have been with hospice since it first opened.

Diana Gibson, director of patient services, said: "The people of Barnsley show us great support and we are very grateful for all the fundraising that enables us able to carry on caring for the people who need our help."
