Is £44 Too Much For Barnsley's New Shirt?

Tuesday July 8 2014

BARNSLEY Football Club has hinted that the price of its replica shirts could be reduced next year - after fans scoffed at the new strip's £44 price tag.

The Reds revealed their new kit for the League One campaign last week and also confirmed that the make and price could change when the current kit supplier, Justsport, comes to the end of its four-year deal next summer.

The kit - which is now made by Avec instead of Nike - was met with initial criticism on We Are Barnsley.

Chief executive Ben Mansford said: "The feedback we've had from fans is that they're concerned about its make and price.

"We will take that on board and next year will have the opportunity to negotiate a better deal.

"The positive thing is that the kit is totally bespoke whereas a Nike kit would have been worn by another club in Europe."

The home strip will be on sale from July 14. Are you happy with its look and price? Have your say below.

it's a joke! £44. you would've thought last season ended in promotion, not relegation. charging over £35 for a league one shirt is bonkers. mansford needs to reduce them.

£44 is a rip off. Fact is the Nike shirts we had last season were the same price but not the same quality as an Arsenal shirt for example. Like Sheffield Wednesday’s Puma shirts where cheap material in relation to Newcastle’s shirts last season. In my opinion the Nike shirts where cheat team wear tat.

A massive shame that if your not a fan of a prem league club you don’t get the same quality when you pay the same price.

Avec will probably give us more quality than Nike but still who are Avec and would you spend £20.000 on a 1.2 Renault Clio? Cheaper name so should be a cheaper shirt.

You want decent signings? Pay the price. Leeds fans have been paying this for the last 7 seasons.

why don't Barnsley do a first and support its loyal following reduce its prices encourage young and old to go to the game to have a full stadium is surely better than a half empty one i am sick and tired of these clubs asking its loyal following to cough up all the time not just Barnsley but all of them surely they can take more money with all the adds on eg selling pies season tickets and match day programs and so let have a good day with the family that,s what it should be about come on support the town you live in and create more jobs also

The current regime at Oakwell make one mistake after another. The price of the shirt is another mistake, it should have been kept under £40. Neither should the shop have been 'farmed out' to Just Sport. When will the people running the club start to realise that they are incompetent?
