Barnsley Pub To Revert To Old Name After Revamp

Friday July 4 2014

A BARNSLEY pub is set to open its doors after a major refurbishment.

Formerly known as The Olive Branch, the pub, on Park Road, Worsbrough Bridge, will now be known as The Red Lion, its original name.

A major refurbishment, carried out by Simon Markham and Andrew Reynolds, is nearing completion and aims to be open by July 18.

I loved walking my dog round the dam and through the woods nipping back to the red lion for a pint there was always a bowl of water for the dogs I hope the new owners will do the same

The Red Lion went downhill after the closure of Barrow Colliery. Miners used to call in on their way home from work (going to as well for some) When they got shut of the tap room to make way for diners that finished the job, well that's history now. So good luck to the new owners, but I think it will need more than changing the name back to change its fortunes.

Absolute rubbish, it was well known for its food for years after Barrow shut. Always a popular pub.

It's the owners from the junction at Brampton I hear? Hopefully they'll get an actual chef in and not be serving the overpriced bought inslop they do there! Can't see it taking off to be honest.

Really again?? That place has been open n closed a thousand times in the last couple years, its making me dizzy. Don't get me wrong I hope it's better than button mill and olive branch and wish them all the luck but the people opening these pubs don't seem to have a clue. I'm looking forward to trying it out though. When I went in to olive branch after opening it was terrible. Menues were wrong, always closed, cheif of kids working didn't know how to cook menu, so dirty n dusty. Like filthy dirty in the eating section. I just hope its finally better this time. Best of luck! A few tips, actually advertise this time, get experienced friendly staff, use the multiple chalk boards within to add specials or daily deals/ upcoming events etc.

Should have never changed names. Hope the red and yellow slides get put back for kids :-)

We brought our two kids up at back of Red Lion playing on the slides. They did some lovely meals then , when the older couple came out Dennis & Evlin had it then meals were great , good value for money. Then an ex footballer took over started going downhill, then we had a large pub chain move in that was the end of that pub .
