Major Bus Route Changes Announced By Stagecoach

Thursday July 3 2014

Stagecoach Stagecoach

STAGECOACH has announced a major shake-up of its services along a busy Barnsley bus corridor. Here's your guide on what's changing.

The operator is introducing a number of changes on the Pontefract Road corridor to improve punctuality and reliability.

The changes, which come into effect from the start of September, will see Stagecoach buses run along Pontefract Road through Lundwood every five minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes.

Service 32, which runs from Barnsley to Crown Avenue, Cudworth, will run every 10 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes.

Buses to Grimethorpe will also be changed to run every 10 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes and the frequency of buses to Brierley will be improved.

The plans include a new hourly link from Barnsley to Goldthorpe via Grimethorpe and the ASOS clothing warehouse.

There will also be an increase in the number of buses serving Nancy Crescent and ASOS. Some buses will run via Cudworth bypass offering faster, more direct links.

Plans are also in place for a new night bus to Grimethorpe and Brierley on Saturday nights/Sunday mornings.

John Young, acting commercial director at Stagecoach Yorkshire, said: "This is a really positive development for all our Pontefract Road customers.

"These changes have been developed from feedback from our customers and staff and will ensure that our network of services is attractive to both current and potential new users."

I expected changes to the 57 bus times as they clearly are not working properly and haven't been for many years. Stagecoach did say they were looking into it and thought there would be some changes here so feeling disappointed.

There changes to the 57/59 morning times at the end of July which should hopefully improve things

Fab news for some but the diabolical service up to Mount Vernon Hospital continues. An hourly service direct once an hour that misses regularly then turns into a two hourly service during visiting times. Yes for active people they can walk up from Sheffield rd but if you struggle it would be impossible

At "me" there are 4 buses that run to wombwell, I'm sure people can find something from four buses.

I agree "me" i have elderly parents who live at the top of aldham an its a nightmare with busses theres only one every two hrs for me to catch an like yiu say last one home for me is 4.50.pm if they need to go to doctors early or later its a taxi. and sat the 1.00 bus didnt turn up i felt really sorry for all the old folks waitin up wombwell with their shoppin

There should be changes to 67 Brampton bus what goes trough Wombwell and every where else it is well used service they should be 1 every half hour not one every hour and that's if it turns up and on busy days can be half hour late or what about putting a bus what goes up Hunningly Lane there is a lot of elderly people that live up there and they have no public transport at all running up there its discusting hey could have bank end and kendray bus running up and down there so these elderly people are not stuck in there own homes or having to pay expensive to get about like getting taxi its suppose to be a modern company and think about people don't look like it Yorkshire Traction was better

There's always someone moaning somewhere about buses if u don't like the service don't use it or open your own bus company and see how hard it is. Look at redline they went bust so it says how hard it is out there so stop moaning about buses all the time. Like I said if u don't like the service don't use it...

This is for "frank", you are talking out of your rear end, What a comment ! " if you dont like the service dont use it ", the majority of people rely on the service to get to work etc and have no choice BUT to use the service, not everybody has the luxury of a car or have unlimited funds for taxi's. What else would you suggest ??? Walk ?? What about the elderly, disabled, mothers with kids ?,,, you must be a car driver to come out with such inane remark !!

1 bus 1 route in and out of mapplewell where ever you want to go you have to go to town first so if you want to go to royston which is about 2 mile away you have to travel about 7 mile by bus to get there

Reply Posted by sid on Thursday July 3 2014 at 16:13
LOL 2 sids.

Reply Posted by inmyopinion on Thursday July 3 2014 at 18:19
nice comments from everybody, most places that people need to get to will have to go into town first, i think that the new guy in at Barnsley is going to try and make an improvement to all the services, but it takes time and they are starting with the Pontefract Rd Corridor first. How many of you who are complaining have written into the company to complain.

Reply Posted by dd on Thursday July 3 2014 at 19:22
no point complaining. they DON'T listen and the arseholes on the transport committee couldn't give a damn as long as they keep getting paid.

Reply Posted by Andrew on Thursday July 3 2014 at 22:14
Me, I sent in a complaint last week and still awaiting a response. I use the 8 am bus to work that is once an hour for work even though I do not start until 9 as the later one gets me there late. It has missed twice so far this week and the same last week. Why offer a service when you can't run it

Reply Posted by calmdown calmdown on Thursday July 3 2014 at 20:58
If stagecoach did all your suggestions they would prob be bust, everyone will be obese and tax payers money will be wasted on bus routes that are not really needed. No bus company can cover all the areas/streets in barnsley n keep everyone happy unless you want the bus to town to take 2hours while it goes on every estate on way!!!!! Use your brain people.

Reply Posted by betty on Thursday July 3 2014 at 21:50
can bet you work for stage coach calm down they are looking at pontefract route what about all these elderly and there is some on Hunningly Lane what has never had a bus service every body is on about it these are the people you should be looking at elderly these what has thought for country and worked for it its disgracful

Sort the 57/59 out! No excuse to be late EVERY DAY. Every ten mins my backside. More like every 20!

Reply Posted by Sigh on Friday July 4 2014 at 03:00
Ya know what a bus could run every 5 mins to all areas and ppl would bloody moan.... End of day stagecoach is a business like every other company and they try and accommodate each area as much as they probably can but unfortunately can't please everyone

Reply Posted by ... on Sunday July 6 2014 at 13:32
You all talk s**t you want buses to run everywhere like Tracky did well fact is is costs money to run a service and why would you run a service in places at a loss when your only picking a few people up it's a business like any other business people have to make money or the company goes under so you all slate them but you all would do they same and not lose out on money .... I don't hear anything ever said about Tate's buses .... Can't serve every place in barnsley so wake up and you all moan about em been late haha listen when you have to que down a road for 20 min to get to town etc yea buses are gunna back up and you can't just catch the time up just like that you must think buses can deploy wings.

Reply Posted by Jimmy on Sunday July 6 2014 at 16:32
How about Stagecoach cleaning the interior of their buses sometimes? They're disgusting.

Reply Posted by ... on Sunday July 6 2014 at 16:55
How about you scruffy people use a bin instead of the bus then they wouldn't need cleaning all the time

Reply Posted by sooiner walk on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:19
so for a short journey to see my parents who live on aldham house lane and i live near pontefract road cundy X i have to go into town.. then another bus back to wombwell? is there ever a direct bus?

Reply Posted by gill on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:20
Why not have a bus from cudworth to the dearne valley ie capita and webhelp????

Reply Posted by nic on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:23
Not everybody works at asos ... what about putting bus services on for manvers that go through Darfield and Great Houghton .

Reply Posted by Chris on Friday July 11 2014 at 00:22
True they don't but the need has grown, when I'm getting on the first bus on a morning at 05:12 the bus is filled to the point where at least 8-10 people are standing by the time the bus reaches ASOS, and that's not even for a main shift time.
I agree that there needs to be improvements elsewhere but the demand at the moment for that location is very high.

Buses are cleaned everyday. There are two clearners who picks up all the litter when the buses come. But theres on one on at a time so cannot get to every bus. Unfortunatly some people treat it like a skip and have no respect

Reply Posted by Cheryl on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:26
As usual Royston is left out of the loop again!!! 57/59/59a needs sorting n there needs to be more busses after 6.30pm

Reply Posted by J on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:31
Yet again west of the m1 is forgotten it's always the same we are forgotten by Barnsley normally
Why not run the 20 to town from Millhouse of even link it with 92

Reply Posted by Lol on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:45
Listen to yourselfs people think some of you need to get a grip thay will only put a route on if it's worthwhile doing so these things cost money and all routes have been planned monitored and if there isn't loads of people that uses that bus why put extra services on its a bus service not a door to door taxi which some people seem to think it is fgs. ..

Reply Posted by Marilyn Hallworth on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:50
Wot about the service that runs thro long causeway at Monk Bretton and down high street then Burton road to cudworth? 5 a day and last one at 215 from town!!! This is ridiculous. Why can't some that go up fishdam lane go that way

Reply Posted by lozzle on Monday July 7 2014 at 09:58
Well to me the 59 wakefield bus that goes via cross lane needs to be more frequent than one and hour it would be more beneficial for the elderly residents who do there weekly shop and everyone else

Reply Posted by babs on Monday July 7 2014 at 10:07
The 31 which runs every hour upto 2:30 should start running earlier and finish later

Reply Posted by babs on Monday July 7 2014 at 10:10
Mrspoon... I totally agree with you

Reply Posted by Lol on Monday July 7 2014 at 10:18
People just want jam on it makes me laugh it really does stagecoach will only change it if it's worth it there are other bus services that run these areas too....

Reply Posted by Claire on Monday July 7 2014 at 10:46
The 57 are never on time. Always missing buses. I complained last week about a bus that was very fond of its brakes n threw my daughter across bus in her pram. Still waiting to hear back. Its a joke!!!!

Reply Posted by Margaret on Monday July 7 2014 at 11:00
They very rarely answer your complaints Claire and on the one occasion they did reply to mine they were adamant they were in the right when it was obvious they were not bad day for Yorkshire when stagecoach came to town

Reply Posted by Lyndsay Mather on Monday July 7 2014 at 11:23
What about a bus from carlton to Grimethorpe asos

Reply Posted by Rebecca on Monday July 7 2014 at 14:12
Find it shocking the large amount of areas with no service at all anymore. My aunt, mother and mother-in-law all had buses pass near enough to use and now all three are house bound unless they can afford a taxi. I live on a major route and find services after 6 are rubbish. The people deciding routes are often drivers and/or fit enough to walk 1/4 mile up hill with shopping in all weathers

Reply Posted by inmyopinion on Monday July 7 2014 at 18:56
can i have a bus to get me from my bed to the kitchen please, carn't be arsed to walk

Reply Posted by inmyopinion on Monday July 7 2014 at 18:58
well if everybody else are putting silly comments on

Reply Posted by MrSpoon on Monday July 7 2014 at 22:52
People always want a 10min service from their front doors to their place of work or shops. It simple just isn't practical to have a bus to all 4 corners of Barnsley and every road in between every 10mins. Barnsley depot has about 92 buses out in service and no room to expand the depot. If people on here think they can provide a better service I look forward to seeing you down at the stagecoach office do so

I've complained a few times about Stagecoach buses driving slower than necessary, they just give bull"hit replies! Apparently 20mph is an acceptable speed limit on roads of 40mph! Also there where no passengers on the bus!

This is the reply I received:

I have checked our monitoring system on the bus in question and i can not see our driver was doing anything wrong.

Speed limits are a maximum speed and safety does play a part when you have a large vehicle as it does takes longer to stop and negotiate turns, the driver has to take into consideration that unlike cars, his passengers do not wear seat belts and manvers way has a lot of roundabouts which by the time you have accelerated out of one roundabout you would be slowing down as you approach the next roundabout, then onto Wath road heading towards mexborough, A blind railway bridge and narrow road with parked cars these are the reasons our driver drove safely for the comfort of passengers on the bus.

have any one of you ever driven a bus for our great wonderful public if you have you know where this is going if you have not they always need drivers think about it this tells you something if the lads and lasses would rather be on the dole than drive a bus there is something very wrong think about this the next time you think about giving them abuse remember they are there to do a job and help you, treat them with respect and try to be nice you never know you might have a very nice day.

Reply Posted by mrspoon on Wednesday July 9 2014 at 20:32
U complain that bus drivers drive too slow when passengers are not on the bus but have you ever thought why they are doing so. They are doing it to keep to the timetable and not to be too early at the stops. You would be the first to complain if you missed the bus because it was early

Reply Posted by Georgina on Thursday July 10 2014 at 09:05
26/26a wants changing it's shocking to get to wombwell and Darfield!! Always late!!

Reply Posted by mrspoon on Thursday July 10 2014 at 11:16
26/26a is changing in september. When the whole pontefract corridor changes. More buses going up cudworth bypass so quicker journeys grimethorpe

Reply Posted by T C on Friday July 11 2014 at 08:39
AJ. I suppose you would prefer a bus speeding about n making it dangerous for other road users n pedestrians. Maybe you should try driving a bus on certain roads n at certain times of the day n see how you cope with driving it.
