Mellis Leaves Barnsley

Tuesday July 1 2014

JACOB Mellis has left Barnsley Football Club.

Officials met with Mellis and his parents on Friday, but during the meeting it became clear that Jacob felt he needed a fresh challenge and that he would prefer to leave the club than be part of the Reds' League One campaign.

Barnsley have therefore decided to withdraw the offer of a new contract to Jacob and he will now pursue opportunities away from Oakwell.

A club statement said: "Jacob’s decision is disappointing. However, the club are only interested in having players completely committed to ensuring next season is as successful as possible."

Mellis was a mainstay of the Reds’ midfield last season, playing 33 games and contributed two goals.

A good player when he could be bothered but not as good as HE thinks he is.

Some of our fans are as thick as pig s**t.

He’d be a class above in league one and in a bad season last year when he hardly ever played in his preferred position.

He’ll be a big loss and for a club like us to replace him with a like for like player as good as we can’t afford one.

Moan, moan, moan, doesn’t track, blah, blah, blah…

Let’s not forget his not tracking back and playing where he’s best he played a massive part keeping us up the season before.

Booing him if he fails to sprint 30 yards.

He’s class and too good for us, but a waste of a shirt with how Swilson played him, McCourt etc.

I disagree cal. I watched him last year, game after game be very poor. He is commiting the worst crime a footballer can and thats not getting near his potential due to his commitment, work ethic and attitude. I agree hes a good player on his day, but we cant keep massaging a players ego for the sake of 1 good performance a year. I bet he goes elsewhere ( for more money ) and continues in the same way as he has all his career and gets the same results. He will retire a millionaire but a career largely of wasted talent.

He was ineffective and looked disinterested, lack of effort is unforgiveable. No loss at all.

What Mellis gone? Part of that stunning midfield that set the championship alight last season.Good. Or we could just choose to remember the odd good game he had.

We have had some great footballers and then we have had a few that thought they where great Jacob falls. Into one of these catagorys I wonder if the fans and Jacob are in the same mind don't think so

Dawson looked a world beater in league 1. I'd have a bet that all these Rotherham player who looked good go up a league and they do a Yeovil.

Just a shame he probably feels it's best to move on. He'll end up at Wednesday or Leeds nailed on.
