A £1.2 MILLION medical centre which will serve more than 5,000 patients is being built in Barnsley.

Dodworth Medical Centre is being built on Woodland Drive, off Broadway, and will replace the existing one on Dodworth Road when it is completed in the autumn.

Three GPs will be based at the new surgery which will have disabled access, a community cafe and parking.

There will be various clinics, including ante-natal, baby, asthma, a stop smoking service and a pharmacy.

They have moved it to a posh/nicer area. You couldn't get through the door at the old place because of the smack rats. The town end area is full of them.

This,s good news,my little family needed the walk in centre on Sunday, when they got there they found its now a dentist. They had been to Barnsley Gen on the Saturday and the carry on was so bad, they didnt want to go on the Sunday,so went to the walkin centre at Wakefield. It was brilliant! After Saturdays visit to Barnsley, they had to go to 4 chemists to find the prescribed drugs needed, they eventually tracked some down at Wakefield. Whats going on in Barnsley???
