New Worsbrough Care Home Gets Go-Ahead

Monday March 19 2012

A CARE home will be built on the site of the former Ward Green Primary School in Worsbrough, Barnsley Council has agreed.

Ideal Care Homes was given permission for the scheme which will see a 62-bedroom care home be built on the plot that will create around 50 jobs.

The application was deferred in January to allow for more consultation with nearby residents, who objected to the proposals.

The neighbours said the development should be reduced to a single storey height to be more in keeping with the properties on Dorchester Place and suggested the plot be relocated towards the north of the site (nearer to Genn Lane).

But councillors agreed that the scheme should be given the go-ahead as the vacant school site was prompting local vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

The report for council planners said: "The redevelopment of the site is welcomed, the school has a dated appearance and is not of any visual importance.

"Whilst it has been vacant it is also beginning to attract elements of anti social behaviour, and there is clear evidence of vandalism and fly tipping within the grounds. The proposals therefore present an opportunity to address these issues and provide a welcomed investment within the locality which can reflect positively on the environment and enhance the locality as a whole."

Are you sure some of you should be trusted with the care of vulnerable adults often with complex medical needs if you can't even differentiate between a news site and a recruitment site? Try the company concerned, not We Are Barnsley.
