Ambulance Damaged In Collision

Monday June 9 2014

AN AMBULANCE crew and a car driver were injured in a crash last week.

The ambulance collided with a silver Volkswagen Passat on Pontefract Road, Lundwood, at about 7.30am on Tuesday.

The front end of the ambulance was badly damaged in the smash.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: "We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a road traffic collision with a car on Pontefract Road in Barnsley.

"At the time of the collision the double-crewed ambulance was not responding to an emergency call and did not have a patient on board.

"As soon as the incident was reported two ambulances, a clinical manager and clinical supervisor were deployed to the scene.

"Both the ambulance crew and driver of the car were assessed at the scene and treated for minor injuries and were all transported to Barnsley Hospital for further care.

"This incident is currently being looked into by the trust and we are assisting the police with their enquiries."

Hope your friend is ok but to say this ambulance driver should lose his job is a bit harsh these people do marvellous work and see sights which must be horrific so wait while you know all the facts before passing judgement

Seen pictures of the car, was in a far worse state than the ambulance and not once is it mentioned here. The ambulance was not responding too an incident so why did it happen to be on the other side of the road? this seems to be all about the ambulance!

Probably because ambulances aren't cheap (unlike your standard car) and we pay for them through our taxes.
There's a lot of reasons for vehicles being on the wrong side of the road and passing vehicles parked at the kerb can mean that things like ambulances end up on the wrong side of the road.
We really don't know enough facts to jump to any assumptions.

Oh my word are you people for real? It says all were transported to hospital foe treatment for minor injuries. How can you comment without knowing any facts? And finally why is everyone so desperate and quick to apportion blame?!!! An accident is just that not something done deliberately. Hate it that people are so horrible to each other these days. Im sure it wasnt pleasant for any of the parties involvef. Thank God that noone was seriously injured!

The ambulance driver has admitted it was his fault! He wasn't over taking another vehicle and he wasn't using flashing lights or indicators - He could have killed my friend (thank god he didn't) Now say he shouldn't lose his job!

HE SHOULD NOT LOSE HIS JOB..... Even if he has admitted blame, what about all the lives he has saved over his career, not sure I know anyone who never made a mistake.....and NO ONE DIED !!
