GOOD old-fashioned kids' activities like digging for worms helped a day care centre get a glowing Ofsted report.

Hoyland Common Children's Centre, which is part of the primary school on Sheffield Road, has 48 children on its roll.

It gained a 'good' rating from the inspection last month, with its staff described as "highly skilled with a good knowledge of how children learn".

They planned suitably challenging activities targeted to children's individual learning needs and as a result, pupils made good progress.

The inspectors also said staff did regular and accurate assessments of children's development and there were "very good partnerships" with parents and other agencies involved with the children's learning.

The report said: "Children are given high levels of support which means they are able to reach their full potential.

"There is a fully enclosed area outside with lots of opportunities for children to get fresh air and exercise.

"The outdoor area is vast with a large grassed area and a mud digging pit, where children delight in digging for worms."
