Barnsley To Get Its Own TV Show - WAB DEBATE

Thursday June 5 2014

BARNSLEY is to get its own television station that will be launched online in the Autumn.

Barnsley Community Television follows an attempt 15 years ago to create a local television station that failed because the company could only get
limited approval to broadcast television signals terrestrially – from a
transmitter to rooftop aerials.

The new venture will allow the TV station to be broadcast online and is being launched by the Dearne Media Group and will be staffed mainly by volunteers.

What do you think to Barnsley TV? And what would  you like to see on it?

The problem with these local channels is that because they are run by volunteers and limited resources is that they are going to be not very good, however saying that if they are going to be available as an internet only channel, then funding costs could be kept lower, so that the quality of the programs could possibly be higher, added to that of course, if people are able to watch them as and when aka bbc i-player (other catch-up services being available), then this would allow more people to watch whenever they like and not 'live' as it were.
The sort of things I would like is possibly a more interactive version of this or Barnsley Chronicle, like a microlocalised version of Look North/Calender, good news stories yes, but also about issues that can generate forums, so people can comment about the local stories that matter to them.

Hows about a live feed from BMBC towers featuring Stevie Baby Houghton and the other pigs with their snouts in the trough?

Hope its not just adverts. Not sure what,ll be on it? Maybe show some of the charity's around, give them a little leg up? Would be nice to see events such as Cannon Hall. Let each school write, produce and perform their own play?.
