Rise In Housing Benefit Claimants

Thursday June 12 2014

THE number of working people in Barnsley claiming housing benefit has risen by 42 per cent, according to new research.

Michael Dugher, Barnsley East MP, said the research from the House of Commons showed the real impact of the cost-of-living crisis.

He put the increase down to a failure to make work pay, tackle the crisis and build new homes.

"These shocking figures show this government has failed to get control of the welfare bill," he added. "It shows the impact that the cost-of-living crisis is having on people in Barnsley."

Maybe the rise in Zero hours contracts and the influx of immigrants have helped with the increase too?

Sad fact is that work doesn't pay enough any more as employers will do their utmost to only pay the benchmark minimum wage despite making massive profits.
Warehouse at the end of the bypass being classic example.
The sooner US taxpayers stop subsidising these employers that make massive profits off the backs of hardworking people ,whom they pay a pittance to, the better as far as I am concerned.

What IS needed is a sharp rise of the minimum wage, scrapping of zero hours / annualised hours contracts and unscrupulous "employment" agencies and a workplace "cap" on migrant workers, then perhaps the people that do want to work may just get a decent chance.

"These shocking figures show this government has failed to get control of the welfare bill"

The welfare bill is only ever going to INCREASE YEAR ON YEAR while ever employers are paying crap wages Mr Dugher.
I don't see you or any of your Labour counterparts talking any steps to remedy the "cost of living" crisis.
Your "we will pay the "living wage" policy doesn't come near enough to becoming a "true living wage" either Mr Dugher.
You also promise to scrap Zero Hours contracts, but we have heard many promises from you and your Labour Party cohorts haven't we Mr Dugher, you promised us the earth the last time you were in power and all we ended up with was MILLIONS of immigrants due to your idiotic "open door" immigration policy AND you surrendered to the Euro Prats in Brussels at every turn, that is why we have seen the monumental rise of UKIP is it not Mr Dugher?

You also say that "if" Labour are elected into power next year that Labour will build 1 MILLION new houses.
Tell me Mr Dugher, where will these houses go?
Does Labour plan to be the first political party to build houses on and colonise the moon?

The people of Barnsley have seen first hand how the local ruling Labour party have given planning permissions for "developers" to pave over vast swathes of green belt land that no one in our town wants, let alone can afford.

Problem with you Mr Dugher is you "try" to talk the "talk" but cannot "walk the walk" the same goes for the rest of the Labour Party career gravy trainers.

Get rid of royal parasites, get rid of house of lords, get rid of at least half the m.PS,start making our own cars ,put a tram system in similar to Sheffield, give the civic theatre, the theatre royal back to entertainment, crack down on blue badge abuse ,improve education in Barnsley where no more than 8 per class, build a public lido ,more green people spaces like Sheffield water features etc. That's enough to be going on with .

Independence for Scotland with the north of chesterfield given independent rule to form its own republic fracking to be contained around Buckingham palace all bankers bonuses stoped and be made to work on minimum wagers for the next twenty yrs any losses the banks make by speculation would result in deportation without reprieve to Afghanistan and there family's be made to live on benefit street and be paid jsa with sanctions if they don't take a zero hours contract job
